| Small Canada Goose, near Richardson's Goose B. c. hutchinsii, Hunting Creek VA 2-10 FEB 2002. Photos through the telescope and video grabs by Dave Czaplak. In addition to the small size and structural features, this bird's upper breast appeared to be pale to medium brown, depending on lighting. The breast color is quite variable in these photos, but they are definitely all of the same bird. The white chin strap was nearly complete across the underside of the chin, with only short intrusion of black from the bill about 1/5 the length of the strap. (Seen while the bird preened.) |
